A charred timber house on the cliffs of the Atlantic coast.

The challenge

The site faces west into weather. The brief was a family house that could take the wind and still feel warm.

The solution

Two simple gables, clad in charred larch and slate, sit low behind a stone wall. Deep window reveals frame the sea and hold back the glare.

The outcome

The house is highly insulated, heated by an air source heat pump and built to stand for a century.
