Two offset oak gables on a sandstone plinth, set into a wildflower meadow.
The challenge
The site is a sloping meadow at the foot of the Quantocks. The planning brief asked for a house that read as part of the farmed landscape.
The solution
We split the home into two simple gables, offset to follow the contour. Dark-stained oak above, local red sandstone below. Between them, a low glazed link holds the entrance.
The outcome
Inside, the living room rises into an exposed oak roof. A sunken hearth sits beneath a tall corner window that frames the hills at dusk.
