A granite and concrete house beneath a turf roof on the edge of the moor.
The challenge
This is a replacement dwelling for a tired 1960s bungalow. The new house sits lower than the one it replaces.
The solution
A turf roof carries the moorland over the building. Beneath it, a long gallery runs between a wall of reclaimed granite and a wall of glass.
The outcome
The living room is held under a cantilevered concrete roof. At night, it is the only light in the valley.
